Stanislaw Hansel

Musician   Composer   Teacher

Stan was born in Peterborough (UK) in 1950, of Polish parents. He is married with two children. He attended the Kings School, Peterborough, from 1962 to 1969, then Trinity College of Music, London, from 1969 to 1972. He studied piano under Anthony Lindsey

and composition under John Tavener. While still young and in the heady days of the late 1960s and early 1970s, he started composing a small series of improvisatory pieces. His “forcefield” pieces grew in the 1980s. At that time he wanted somehow to expand upon his sequences and go further into insinuating their forces. He therefore came to the two section (or two movement) structure where the first movement presents the materials (i.e. the forcefields) but the second seeks to amplify the forces by causing a kind of friction with largely irrelevant materials. This was the origin of his Psychic Music.
